Mr. LaBree,
You are doing all the right things. Everyone runs out of gas sooner or later so this is not something to worry about right now. You will improve in this area with consistent training. Let me give you some things that you should be focusing on as a new MMA student from the Jiu-Jitsu side of things.
1. Realize that technique is EVERYTHING in Jiu-Jitsu. With that said understand that you must have the other attributes of strength, agility, speed, etc.. that we all have in some form or fashion.
2. Use what you have!!! You are a giant Man, so learn to use your weight to your advantage in all you do when grappling.
3. Understand that Time will help you more than you realize right now. We all have that instant gratification mind set and while it is not a bad thing you and everyone must understand that jiu-jitsu is endless and complex yet simple and effortless. Now that will confuse you a little!
4. Enjoy the journey! Training in Jiu-Jitsu is done on many levels. it takes practice on a physical, mental, and emotional level to get the most out of Jiu-Jitsu. Savor the taste of your time on the mat, leave your ego at the door and you will not only enjoy the journey but each step you take towards your goal of BLACK BELT!!!
